A very loooooong time ago I was a Honors English student in college; we read the classics voraciously. This book is a bit different, with the characters showing more wit than Austin usually provides.I recently read the "Zombie" format of this work and found it absolutely laugh-out-loud funny. While Emily Bronte's "Wuthering Heights" is one of my all-time favorites, I always dreaded reading Jane Austin. She can be very bland, dry, and boring. Can't wait to see the movie. If you like this book, by all means pick up the P,P & Z edition and prepare to be charmed all over again.Best,Vienna
Maybe if it had been called 'Pretty Girls Out Husband Hunting' or 'Lydia Lands In a Jam' or something equally silly I would have known what I was in for.Maybe this wasn't the best first Jane Austen novel to read. It felt like a fluffy romance novel, which I do not in general care for.
I made a list of a dozen or so and have had mixed results so far. Nice For Some Maybe Even Most, But Sadly Not My Cup of TeaTo those of you who adore Jane Austen please try not to take it personally that I did not love this book, it is not an insult to you OR her.I have traditionally avoided the classics but made a recent resolution to try some.
Perhaps if I had known what I was getting before I started I would have been less disappointed. I think that my expectations were too high, I was expecting something like Jane Eyre, which I loved.
Unfortunately I found 'Pride and Prejudice' a little too frivolous for my tastes. I love a good love story, part of why I loved Jane Eyre.
I'm not sure if I will be reading another.Okay, I know that 655 of you loved this and many of you will have to give me a negative vote because we don't agree. So, let the negative votes begin *winces*.
I am trying to read more classics because I never really paid attention to them in high school. I started reading this one and at first I was having a hard time getting into it, it is a bit slow. But by the second half of the book I couldn't put it down. Terrific love story, literature at its finest.
Jane Austen writes with an incredible literary style that is lacking in the works of most contemporary authors. Before I read this book I saw the 2005 film starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Macfadyen. She has an eloquence of words that is complex and yet far easier to read than most people seem to think. I loved the movie and I was inspired instantly to read Jane Austen's classic novel. Despite the fact that I had already seen the movie and knew the general progression of events I was still captivated by the novel. Though I am usually not a fan of novels that are based in reality without any hint of the supernatural I was enthralled by Austen's timeless love story which will leave every female reader pining for the dark and brooding Mr. Darcy.
I received the book that I ordered promptly and it was in great condition, just as the sellers had promised. I was pleased with the service.
